British people want a stable economy.able management and to retain their sense of freedom and parliamentary institutions. There are still people in great Britain who find fault with Mr.Clement At lee and the labour Government for having granted freedom to India and other colonies which marked the beginning of the downfall of Britain. The British psych might not yet have reconciled to the liquidation of Her Majesty's empire and unconsciously or un knowingly may be taking revenge on the Labour party who liquidated the empire. Any how Tacher's magic was short lived. British economy is again in straits. Britain is no more dynamic. She has lowered herself in to a second rate industrial power far behind US, Germany, Scandinavian countries, France, Italy and Japan. Mr. David Day told me that the British economy subsits on its service and industries and overseas investments. If the returns from service industries and overseas investments dwindle or are threatened Britain would collapse and sink in to a bottomless abyss. This fear haunts the British mind as a nightmare and makes it hesitant to take any bold step. The British mind was never revolutionary , or radical but conservative. This explains their lukewarmness towards the European community, European Parliament and European coinage. European mind is more radical and in the European community socialists remain the single biggest political force. Britain wants still to retain her semi feudal peerages and anachronistic institutions like king-ship on which which the average European looks contemptuously. Any how gone are the days when the British people prided in their glory and and said to themselves `Britannia ,Britannia ye rule over the waves and your sons shall never be slaves". The mistress of the world is now an aged ailing woman. Though aged and ailing she wants to retain her identity, her parliamentary system and her economic structure.
